The "World's Best Dark Ale" Exclusively at the LCBO

Unibroue 17 Grande Réserve to be launched today

MONTREAL, Nov. 7, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Unibroue is proud to introduce its 17 Grande Réserve exclusively at the LCBO, for the enjoyment of Ontario's beer connoisseurs.

Created by Unibroue's master brewer, Jerry Vietz, Unibroue 17 was only bottled once, at the end of 2007. In 2010, it was recognized as the World's Best Dark Ale at the World Beer Awards, in England, amongst over 500 beers presented by 27 countries. This rich Belgian style ale has a roasted malt nose, with a hint of sweetness and a subtle oak finish. "The fact that this beer distinguished itself at this prestigious event makes me especially proud," says Jerry Vietz, "since it's the first beer I created at Unibroue, the first one that I can call my own." This latest honour comes in addition to three international platinum medals the Unibroue 17 has already garnered.

After such a critical success, Unibroue decided it could not deprive its fans of this superior dark ale. And so the 17 Grande Réserve came to be. This dark ale, aged with French oak and bottle refermented, presents a complex profile of aromas and flavours. The Grande Réserve designation recognizes its exceptional aging qualities. Unibroue  17 Grande Réserve will be brewed once a year, and will be sold in numbered brasseur bottles to better reflect its uniqueness.

Following its launch at the LCBO, Unibroue 17 Grande Réserve will be introduced to the rest of the Canadian market and in the U.S. at the beginning of 2012.
