The seminar will kick off with the launch of The War Amps Safety Blitz,
which will be held under the theme An accident... it can happen to anyone!
During a special conference today at 10:30 AM, Louis Bourassa, Director of
CHAMP, who lost a leg in an accident at the age of 4, will introduce this
year's "Safety Ambassadors": Maude Lavoie, 10, Justine Sylvestre, 10, and
Daniel Lanteigne, 20. Maude is a left leg amputee due to medical reasons,
while Justine and Daniel both lost a leg in a lawnmower accident.
This Spring, they will have the task of spreading the PLAYSAFE message to
children by conducting presentations in schools. They hope to prevent the type
of accidents that cost them, and other CHAMP members, a limb. Furthermore,
Mr. Bourassa will proceed with the official launch of the LA MARCHE AXEE SUR
LA PRUDENCE video, featuring Justine and Daniel, which will be presented in
schools in conjunction with the Safety Blitz.
Several sessions will take place throughout the seminar. One of the
highlights will be the Amputees in Action Session during which Champs will
demonstrate the artificial limbs and devices they use for various sports and
activities such as biking, swimming and playing baseball. In addition,
multiple amputee children will attend sessions created specifically for them.
The War Amps holds seminars to provide Champs and their families with
valuable information, personal encouragement, and the opportunity to meet
other amputee youngsters. According to Louis Bourassa, seminars are part of
the Winner's Circle philosophy, which encourages Champs to take a positive
approach in all their activities and endeavours. They learn, "It's what's left
