TORONTO, Oct. 30 /CNW/ - Rogers Cable Communications today announced that
for the 23rd year its annual Halloween safety program, called the Rogers
Pumpkin Patrol, will once again be patrolling the streets, watching out for
the safety of young trick-or-treaters this Halloween night.
The Rogers Pumpkin Patrol is a two-tiered program that runs
coast-to-coast, from St. John's to Vancouver.
On Halloween night, employees volunteer their time to patrol in red
Rogers vans on neighbourhood streets in areas serviced by Rogers Cable. This
year the Pumpkin Patrol will be out in Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland
with over 800 trained employee volunteers and 400 vans equipped with Rogers
In addition to the patrol night, throughout the month of October Rogers'
employees and local police officers have been educating children in Grades 2
and 3 from coast-to-coast about Halloween safety. As a result, over 175,000
Halloween safety loot packs have been handed out across Canada, each
containing a safety tips card, a reflective armband and face tattoos. To
ensure they are visible, children are encouraged to wear the reflective
armband on their costume.
"The Rogers Pumpkin Patrol is a long-standing tradition at Rogers that
unites our employees and gives us an opportunity to give back to the
communities we serve," said Carol Ring, Regional President - GTA for Rogers
Cable. "Through our classroom presentations, our employee volunteers are able
to arm young trick-or-treaters with all the tips they need to stay safe this
Halloween. And, our red Rogers vans patrolling the night of ensure there is
another set of eyes on the roads if anyone ever needs any assistance."
The Rogers Pumpkin Patrol recommends that parents review the safety tips
with their children before they head out on Halloween and remind them they can
approach a police officer or a patrolling Rogers Cable van if they need
assistance. The safety tips can be found at www.pumpkinpatrol.com.
Some Halloween safety tips from the Rogers Pumpkin Patrol:
1) Wear a properly fitted costume that is bright and non-flammable. Use
reflective tape so costumes can be seen in the dark.
2) Use face make-up or enlarge the eyes on masks for better visibility.
3) Visit the front door of well lit homes and never go inside.
4) Plan a route and a time to be home, and stay close to home.
5) Have an adult (at home) check out treats before they are eaten.
6) Younger children should go with an adult. Older children should
trick-or-treat in groups.
7) If a child needs assistance, they can speak to a police officer or go
to a Rogers van.
