MONTREAL, Aug. 8 /CNW Telbec/ - André Lavallée, the City of Montréal's
executive committee member responsible for public transit and urban
development, and Alain Ayotte, executive vice-president of Stationnement de
Montréal, are proud to announce the five finalists in the Find my name contest
and invite Montrealers to vote for their favourite.
"The public bike system is clearly a long-awaited innovation for
Montrealers, and we hope they will adopt this new "bikestyle." That's why we
invite them to turn out in droves to help choose a name for it," declared
The contest to find a name for this new public bike system has been a
resounding success. "From the very start, the public showed great interest in
this contest, suggesting more than 8,800 different names," added Ayotte.
The five finalists are as follows:
- Bixi - Montvélo - VélO(2)
- Bycik - Villavélo
Between now and September 12, 2008, people can vote for their favourite
by visiting the contest Web site at www.findmyname.ca. The contest winner will
receive a life-time membership to this service, and several runner-up prizes
will also be awarded.
In September, the first prototypes will be available for the public to
view, with stations and bikes on display. In the spring of 2009, 2,400 bikes
and 300 stations will be operational in several boroughs of the City of
