The Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec awards the 2011 Prix Génie Innovation to the Newtrax Technologies team for its MineTrax underground networking system

MONTREAL, May 19 /CNW Telbec/ - The Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) awarded the 2011 Prix Génie Innovation to the Newtrax Technologies Inc. team for its MineTrax underground networking system, a solution that contributes to the advancement of technology in underground mines similar to what the GPS has done on the Earth's surface. Alexandre Cervinka, Eng., Chief Executive Officer and founder of Newtrax Technologies, received the award on behalf of his team at the Gala de l'excellence on May 12 as part of the activities of the Annual OIQ Symposium.

"Newtrax Technologies honours the profession by demonstrating the innovative ability of Québec engineering and by exporting a technology that has a tangible impact on the quality of life and safety of mine workers," stated Maud Cohen, Eng., President of the OIQ, at the award ceremony.

MineTrax underground networking system is an ambitious engineering project designed to improve the health and safety of workers, speed up rescue operations in the event of accidents, and reduce energy consumption through real-time information supply. The underground network created by the Newtrax Technologies team also shares the wealth, since a portion of the cost of each system that is installed in a developing country comes back to local businesses and helps create quality technical jobs. Several leaders in the mining industry have already adopted the MineTrax solution and use it as a communication platform.

The goal of the Prix Génie Innovation is to encourage innovative engineering by recognizing its value both in terms of the results achieved and the efforts made. Innovative engineering rewarded by this award must necessarily help improve the quality of life of human beings and reflect the fundamental values of the engineering, which are competence, responsibility, social commitment and ethics.
