The newest employee perk: dinner to go! Kids & Company launches meal program for Toronto-area clients

TORONTO, June 18 /CNW/ - While everyone welcomes the end of a busy
workday, for thousands of GTA-area working parents, it's the most hectic time
of the day; a time characterized by driving through traffic to pick up kids
from childcare and ferrying older children to and from sports and music
Thanks to a new initiative, clients of Kids & Company can now strike one
task from their after-work to-do list - making a healthy dinner. Starting on
June 18, Kids & Company, Canada's leading provider of flexible child care and
other work/life solutions, will launch a meals-to-go program at its
Toronto-area locations. Now, when parents pick up their little ones, they can
also pick up healthy, delicious prepared meals that they can pop in the
microwave and serve to their families at home. The meals are prepared by Basil
Fresh, a Toronto food company with over 30 years of experience. Dishes include
pasta envelopes stuffed with cheese lasagna, turkey meatballs in tomato sauce
and other favourites.
For Victoria Sopik, mother of eight and CEO of Kids & Company, the meal
program is a natural fit for her corporate clients and their employees: "As
the concept of work/life balance has taken hold in corporate Canada, stressed
out workers are looking to their employers to help them juggle all of their
responsibilities," says Sopik. "Picking up dinner when they pick up their kids
means frazzled working parents have one less thing to worry about."
Procter & Gamble, a Kids & Company client for four years, is the first
corporate partner to embrace the meals-to-go program and is taking it a step
further by offering it to all of its 900 plus employees at the Toronto head
office, even those who are not using the childcare service. The program will
kick off its commitment on June 18th by offering a free meal to every
"Providing a supportive workplace and helping employees balance their
professional and personal lives is a pillar of our HR philosophy at P&G
Canada," says Jane Lewis, director, human resources. "When Kids & Company came
to us with this program, we saw it as a practical way to demonstrate this
commitment to our employees."
Canadian tech company OpenText Corporation, will also be offering the
meals-to-go program to its employees: "We operate in a very competitive
recruiting market," says Dominic Scaffidi, director, human resources, Open
Text Corporation. "As a progressive organization, we have implemented several
programs to help our employees with work/life balance and provide peace of
mind. That leads to employees who are more committed to their work and more
invested in the success of our company."
The meal program is the latest initiative from Kids & Company, which aims
to provide its clients with flexible options. Last year, the company
designated one of its Toronto locations as a 24-7 facility and earlier this
year, it added an elder care pilot project to its Calgary clients. "It just
doesn't make sense to have a rigid approach to childcare," says Sopik. "When
you have toddlers and you're working, things come up no matter how organized
you are. "We adapt to the changing needs of parents rather than forcing them
into a structure that's convenient for us."
