The Movie Network and Movie Central announce HBO original documentary line-up

True stories that chronicle a 94-year-old political candidate, an
ex-member of a religious cult and a life-long animal rights crusader
    premiere this fall

TORONTO, Oct. 4 /CNW/ - This fall, Astral Media's The Movie Network and
Corus Entertainment's Movie Central present three new HBO original
documentaries - Run, Granny, Run, Children of God: Lost and Found and I Am An
Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA - that will captivate viewers
with real-life stories of bravery, heartache and inspiration.
Following four exciting months in the life of 94-year-old Doris 'Granny
D' Haddock, the oldest political candidate in the United States, Run, Granny,
Run, is the moving, real-life story of Haddock's 2004 run for the U.S. senate
in her home state of New Hampshire. Chosen to run on the Democratic ticket
against a formidable Republican adversary, this documentary gives viewers a
behind-the-scenes look into Haddock's underdog campaign as her gritty resolve,
sharp wit and no-nonsense politics propel her through the highs and lows of
running for office. Run, Granny, Run premieres Wednesday, October 24 at 9 p.m.
ET on The Movie Network and premieres Thursday, October 18 at 8 p.m. PT on
Movie Central.
After a highly unconventional childhood growing up in the Children of God
cult, a group that mixed religion with sex, Noah Thomson escaped to begin a
normal life and search for answers about his lost childhood. This HBO original
documentary follows Thomson as he searches for others who have tried to start
a new life outside the cult and discovers that these young, second-generation
members often fail to thrive in the outside world, turning to drugs, crimes
and suicide, unable to adjust to a society indifferent to their abuse as
children. Children of God: Lost and Found premieres Wednesday, November 7 at
9 p.m. ET on The Movie Network and is currently available on Movie Central On
I Am An Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA is a candid and
introspective look at the beliefs and motives of Ingrid Newkirk, the founder
and leader of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). For over 25
years, Newkirk has engineered campaigns - from hidden camera investigations
involving lab monkeys and factory-farmed turkeys, to anti-fur protests
spilling faking blood in chic designer stores - that have made headlines all
in the name of animal rights. Told through interviews with Newkirk, PETA
employees, and PETA supporters and critics alike, viewers will get a
behind-the-scenes glimpse into the inner-workings of this controversial animal
rights group and will see an intimate portrait of a very private person
committed to a very public crusade. I Am An Animal: The Story of Ingrid
Newkirk and PETA premieres Wednesday, November 21 at 9 p.m. ET on The Movie
Network and Tuesday, November 20 at 8 p.m. PT on Movie Central.
