ANTIGONISH, NS, July 2 /CNW/ - Top students from across the country are
continuing to choose St. Francis Xavier University for its premium brand of
education. For the fifth consecutive year, the university's enrollment numbers
are right on target.
"Across the board, StFX offers students the complete package and that's
one of the reasons why our numbers continue to remain strong," says Keith
Publicover, StFX's vice-president of recruitment and student experience.
Mr. Publicover says the personal attention given to students and their
families, StFX's strong academic record, the quality of the student
experience, and StFX's committed alumni network are all factors students
consider when making StFX their first choice.
Along with five consecutive years at the top of Maclean's university
rankings, StFX scored high as one of Canada's best universities in the Globe
and Mail's most recent University Report Card. The report, which ranks
universities on a wide range of categories, gave StFX A+ on faculty members'
knowledge, class sizes and reputation for undergraduate studies, and straight
A's for overall satisfaction, quality of teaching, quality of education and
reputation for high-quality teaching. The residential campus experience also
had straight A's.
Overall, StFX applications and confirmations are both up by about 10 per
cent this year as compared to last. The university typically plans for about
1,200 new students each year, says Robb Parker, StFX's director of admissions
"Our entry numbers from high schools in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick
have continued to be strong over the past few years, and in fact they are up
this year," Mr. Parker says. "Our national enrolment for the past five years
has grown, specifically with students from Ontario and Western Canada" he
"Our current numbers show that our incoming class for September 2008 is
right on target, for the fifth year in a row."
