QUEBEC CITY, Sept. 5 /CNW Telbec/ - The biggest association of motorcoach
operators in North America, the American Bus Association, has chosen the
festivities for the 400th anniversary of Québec City as the top Canadian event
on its annual listing of the 100 best events in North America for 2008.
Every year, ABA chooses 100 must-see events in North America and selects
the best one in Canada and in the United States. The other 98 recipients are
listed in chronological order. The number one event is considered a strong
incentive to visit the region where it will be taking place. Further, such an
event offers an unforgettable experience to the clients of the motorcoach
Such an honour comes with significant publicity: an article about the
festivities in Québec will be published in a supplement with the
September/October issue of Destinations, the association's magazine, as well
as on its Web site, www.buses.org. Year after year, travel professionals
eagerly anticipate the ABA's listing in order to finalize their packages and
to plan their routes.
The American Bus Association represents 3 600 motorcoach companies and
tour operators in Canada and the United States, and 6 000 copies of their
magazine are printed. A dozen members of the ABA make up the Selection
Committee for the Top 100 list, and selection criteria include, among others,
the potential for development of the tourism offer for other regional
attractions, media coverage and the prestige associated with the event.
The recipients are selected among hundreds of celebrations, festivals,
trade shows, commemorative events and others entered for consideration by the
various tourism bureaus of provinces and states. Tourisme Québec and the
Office de tourisme de Québec jointly entered the festivities for the 400th
anniversary of Québec City.
"We are proud to have obtained the ABA's seal of approval without having
even produced a single event. Our programme has just acquired that much more
credibility with tour operators," says a very pleased Mister Pierre Boulanger,
President and CEO of the Société du 400e anniversaire de Québec. "Such an
acknowledgement from the industry will greatly boost our promotion efforts in
the United States and Canada. We may now believe that a good number of
motorcoaches will visit Québec City in 2008, bringing significant economical
spin-off to the region," adds Mister Bélanger.
It is the third time in 26 years that a Québec City event tops this
prestigious list. This year, another Québec City festival has made ABA's Top
100: the Québec City International Festival of Military Bands. The Société du
400e anniversaire de Québec sends its heartfelt congratulations to the
organizers of this festival, which will also be part of the official programme
for the festivities of the 400th anniversary of Québec City!
