The Festival Network Signed to Create Music Festival in Whistler, Debuting July 2008

WHISTLER, British Columbia, Jan. 7 /CNW/ -- Tourism Whistler, Whistler
Blackcomb and the Resort Municipality of Whistler have signed an agreement
with The Festival Network, LLC (FN) to produce The Whistler Music Festival,
which will debut July 19-20, 2008.
Based in San Francisco and New York, FN is an innovative marketing,
production and media company that develops, acquires and produces high-quality
festival properties in unique, desirable destinations with their own
significant brand equity, building distinctive festivals for consumers around
the globe.
"We are looking forward to a long-term relationship with the Whistler
community, bringing first-class entertainment to a world-class ski resort,"
said Thomas B. Shepard, FN's CEO. "Add great music to all the activities
Whistler offers each July, and you have a summer as magical as ski season."
Shepard characterized the expected roster of artists as belonging to
"sophisticated music genres."
Shepard also noted that one of FN's priorities is to leave sites as
pristine as they were before audiences attended an FN festival.
"We are looking forward to working with The Festival Network to help
create a signature summer music festival for Whistler," said Barrett Fisher,
President of Tourism Whistler. "This festival will help enhance Whistler's
expanding value-focused offerings and activities for our summer guests from
around the world."
Whistler is a year-round mountain resort destination located in the Coast
Mountains 120 kilometres (75 miles) north of Vancouver, British Columbia,
Canada, and is site of the alpine, Nordic, and sliding events for the 2010
Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Whistler boasts extensive accommodation
options totaling more than 10,000 bedrooms, offers a wide selection of
restaurants, bars and spas, as well as activities ranging from world-renowned
skiing and snowboarding, mountain biking and golf, to hiking, rock climbing,
and water sports. Home to the continent's two greatest vertical-rise ski
mountains -- Whistler and Blackcomb -- the resort offers 8,171 acres of
skiable terrain and receives an average of 10.22 metres (33.5 feet) of snow
annually. The Resort Municipality of Whistler is home to a diverse community
of more than 10,000 permanent residents.
Marrying legendary impresario George Wein's legacy of branded music
festivals with new corporate and marketing leadership, The Festival Network,
LLC (FN) develops, acquires and produces music festivals and live
entertainment properties in unique destinations around the globe -- offering a
matchless portfolio of marketing and economic development platforms to a wide
range of business partners. FN's roster of festivals, coupled with its
historic media archives dating back over a half century, also serves to
generate content tailor-made for premium broadcast distribution, after-market
media and a variety of business partnerships. FN's 2008 schedule includes
eight JVC Jazz Festivals in the United States and abroad, plus major festivals
in such locales as Martha's Vineyard, Newport, Bermuda and Whistler.
