patients. The website has been recognized as an important source of
information for CML patients in Canada and worldwide. The CML Society website
is bilingual (French/English) and has received over 48,000 hits from various
countries worldwide since first becoming available this year.
Overwhelming recognition and endorsements from a growing body of
hematology and oncology specialty groups has been granted to the Society,
including: the American Society of Hematology, The Canadian Society of

About Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia
Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia is one of four types of leukemia and is a
rare form of leukemia. It is highlighted by a translocational chromosomal
switch (9,22) creating a new chromosome, called the Philadelphia Chromosome.
The prevalence today is approximately 5,000 patients and approximately
125,000 patients in the world, based on an incidence rate of
1 in 100,000 cases. The incidence rate in Canada is 500 newly diagnosed
patients per year.
