The Canadian Depository for Securities Limited (CDS) mourns the death of president and CEO Allan R. Cooper

    TORONTO, Dec. 10 /CNW/ - Allan (Al) R. Cooper, president and CEO of CDS
died yesterday after a long and valiant struggle with cancer.
    Al Cooper's 11-year stewardship of CDS began on April 1, 1996 and spanned
a period of infrastructure building at CDS that included the development of
CDSX, a world-standard clearing and settlement system, and the recent
restructuring of the organization to position it for future opportunities. He
was widely respected by all in the Canadian securities industry for his
efforts to improve the efficiency of the Canadian capital markets.
    Charles R. Moses, chairman of the board of CDS announced that Ian A.
Gilhooley, chief operating officer, will assume executive authority for CDS
until such time as the board appoints a new president and CEO.
