The Canadian College of Health Service Executives proudly recognizes Robert Zed as the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Chair's Award for Distinguished Service.

    TORONTO, June 2 /CNW/ - The Canadian College of Health Service Executives
(CCHSE) bestowed its highest recognition on Robert Zed, Chair of Crothall
Services Canada, a division of Compass Group Canada, yesterday in Saskatoon,
    At the CCHSE's Annual General Meeting and Annual Ceremonies, Bonnie
Adamson, Chairman of the Board, and President & CEO, North York General
Hospital, presented Mr. Zed with the award and recognized him for his
outstanding achievements.
    In her comments, Ms Adamson described Mr. Zed as a good friend and
colleague of the College and an active leader in his community. His numerous
achievements constitute a successful career that encompasses the service,
healthcare and hospitality industries. This is the second time the College has
recognized Mr. Zed's contributions to health services and the community at
large. In 1999 he was presented with the College's Award for Excellence in
    "If it's possible, consider it done. If it's impossible, do it anyway."
Mr. Zed's signature statement has propelled him to the forefront of business,
community leadership, volunteerism, fundraising, and event management.

    Crothall Services Canada and Morrison provide outsourced management
solutions for hospitals, long-term care facilities, and schools across the

Robert Zed, and his management team, Crothall and Morrison clients have access

    Prior to holding the position of CEO, Crothall Services Canada, Robert
served in senior healthcare leadership positions at several Maritime
healthcare centres. Following Compass Group Canada's acquisition of Crothall,
North America, Robert was appointed Chair of Crothall.
    Robert joined the College in July 1987 and received his Certified Health
Executive designation in 1996. A community leader and champion of the College,
Robert is a long-time member and supporter of CCHSE, having held several key
appointments within the organization. Robert has served as the Chair of the
Bluenose Chapter, the Nova Scotia Board of Directors (1997-2000), Vice-Chair
of the board (2000 - 2002) and as Chair of the Board (2002-2004). Robert is
currently a member of the Chair's Advisory Council and is the co-Chair of the
College's Corporate Advisory Committee. In addition, Robert continues to
support the College and upcoming health leaders through the Robert
Zed/Crothall Services Scholarship Award.

    About the Award:

    The Chair's Award for Distinguished Service recognizes individual or
corporate members for their significant contribution to the College or to the
advancement of their mission, vision, values and strategic directions.
    To be eligible, nominees must have a minimum of five consecutive years of
membership and have participated actively in the College during an extended
period of time at the national level. In addition, the successful nominee will
have supported the College in a variety of ways and is acknowledged by peers
and colleagues to exemplify a high level of consistent professionalism in
health service administration. The recipient is selected by a committee
appointed by the Chair.

    About Robert Zed: He is an alumnus of Canada's Top 40 under 40; he was
named to the Top 50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada by Atlantic Business Magazine
every year from 1999 to 2005. In 2005, he was inducted into the Atlantic
Business Magazine Top 50 CEOs Hall of Fame; and currently serves as a judge.
In 2007, Robert Zed was chosen by the Nova Scotia Arthritis Society for their
Annual Celebrity Roast. In 2008, he was appointed an Honorary Trustee of the
Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. Robert lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia,
with his wife Dr. Joanna Zed and their three sons, William, Geoff and Gregor.
