The Blue Chair Campaign: Helping Students Find Their Chair

TORONTO, Jan. 25 /CNW/ - Campuses across Ontario hosted simultaneous
events last night bringing students together to take action at reducing
barriers to post-secondary education. The venues at each campus hosted live
music, guest DJs, and brought thousands of students together in support of a
common cause: to help Ontario's youth find their chair.
"Students want to speak out on the issues that they take care about and

the opportunity to do both." said David Simmonds, President of the Ontario
Undergraduate Student Alliance. "Turnout on each of our campus events was
beyond what we expected and students appreciated the opportunity to make a
statement on issues that matter to them while enjoying a fun and entertaining
Each of the seven student unions held a variety of events to engage
students on their campuses and raise funds for the campaign. For example, some
campuses held discussion panels and forums on access to post-secondary
education leading up to the main event. At the event, some student unions held
raffles and accepted donations in addition to the portion of the cover charge
being donated to the campaign. Donations from supportive community members
were also thankfully accepted.
The Blue Chair Campaign brought thousands of students together to take
action at reducing barriers to post-secondary education for at-risk youth in
our province. The funds that were raised at each of the events last night are
being donated to programs engaging in early outreach work aimed at reducing
educational barriers.

Fundraising efforts occurred on the following campuses:

    McMaster University
    Brock University
    Wilfrid Laurier University
    The University of Western Ontario
    The University of Waterloo
    Queen's University
