LAVAL, QC, June 16 /CNW Telbec/ - Walmart Canada has raised a record
setting fundraising total last Sunday at the 4th annual Walk for Miracles at
Parc Jean Drapeau. The 3000 walkers together with the in-store campaigns
across Québec enabled Walmart to raise $675 000 dollars for Opération Enfant
Soleil. Marc Normandeau from St-Lazare, the Child Champion for the Montreal
region who represented all the children who benefitted from Opération Enfant
Soleil, also took part in the festivities.
For Chantal Glenisson, Walmart Vice-President for Eastern Canada, "The
Walk for Miracles is a great family party that has once again met great
success thanks to the active role played by our employees and our clients. The
presence of numerous artists has also contributed to the success of this
event. Thank you all".
Held simultaneously Sunday June 14th in 12 Canadian cities, the Walmart
annual Walk for Miracles hosted a combined estimated total of 15 000 walkers.
Together, the walks and the in-store campaigns enabled Walmart to amass a
record amount of $ 4.5 million!
Children's Miracle Network (CMN) and Opération Enfant Soleil raises funds
and awareness for the world-class care provided at 14 Canadian children's
hospitals. Through a partnership with CMN, money raised through the Walmart
Walk for Miracles and related in-store campaigns helps the 2.6 million kids
who seek care at these hospitals each year due to sickness or injury. Walmart
Canada ensures that money raised in communities nationwide is directed to the
nearest children's hospital. As a symbol of that local commitment, each of the
12 local Walmart walks was hosted by a local Champion Child who is or has been
treated by the nearest kids' hospital.
"Support for children is a universal value for our company, our
associates and our customers," said Pelletier. "Seeing the living, breathing
reason for our walk - Champion Children getting the care they need to survive
or thrive - is a tremendous motivator and reminder of why we have come out
again and again for the past six years."
