Tembec Inc. to receive Winds of Change award at Forest Stewardship Council gala

Environment Minister Laurel Broten to present award

TORONTO, Sept. 28 /CNW/ - Today Ontario Environment Minister Laurel
Broten will present Tembec Inc. with the Annual Winds of Change Award from the
Forest Stewardship Council of Canada (FSC) acknowledging Tembec's commitment
to environmental leadership and achievements on forest certification.
"FSC Canada is pleased to bring bringing together leaders from the forest
industry, environmental and aboriginal communities to recognize our collective
successes," said Antony Marcil, President and C.E.O. "This year we are
fortunate to have Ontario's Environment Minister present to present our annual
award and to support the success of FSC as the gold standard of forest
management" he adds.
FSC Canada hosts the Winds of Change gala annually to recognize an
extraordinary contribution to the future of Canadian forests and all who
depend upon them.
FSC is gaining recognition in the marketplace as the leading system for
forest certification. Over 30% of Ontario's public forest lands are certified
to the FSC standard. Market momentum is continuing to grow with a recent
commitment from Staples Inc. to have the majority of its paper FSC certified
by 2010 and a new paper policy from the Ontario government that commits to a
target of 30% of the virgin fibre in all its office paper being FSC-certified
paper in 2008.
"I am very proud to receive the FSC Winds of Change Award on behalf of
the employees of Tembec," said James Lopez, President and Chief Executive
Officer. "With over 90% the forests under our management FSC-certified, and an
extensive range of FSC-certified products in the marketplace, Tembec is the
largest producer of FSC-certified products in the world. This prestigious
award recognizes our ongoing commitment to our FSC partnership and the
leadership role that Tembec has taken in responsible forest management."
FSC is a non-profit collaboration of Aboriginal Peoples,
environmentalists, labour and industry in search of better ways to manage our
forests for all.
