TELUS announces competition approval in connection with acquisition of Emergis

    Offer open for acceptance until January 16

    VANCOUVER, B.C., Jan. 8 /CNW/ - TELUS Corporation (TSX: T, T.A; NYSE:   TU)
announced today that the statutory waiting period under the pre-merger
notification provisions of the Competition Act (Canada) expired on December
17, 2007 in connection with the offer (the "Offer") by 6886116 Canada Ltd., an
indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of TELUS Corporation, to purchase all of the
common shares of Emergis Inc. (the "Common Shares") for $8.25 in cash per
Common Share. The Commissioner of Competition has also advised that she does
not intend to challenge the transaction under the merger provisions of the
Competition Act (Canada). This fulfills the condition of the Offer relating to
the Competition Act (Canada), but the Offer continues to be subject to the
other conditions set forth in the Offer and the offering circular dated
December 11, 2007. The Offer is scheduled to be open for acceptance until 5:00
p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) on January 16, 2008, unless withdrawn or

Ducros, a director of both TELUS and Emergis who was required to abstain for
independence reasons) have unanimously approved the Offer, unanimously
determined that the consideration to be received under the Offer is fair, from
a financial point of view, to the Emergis shareholders, unanimously determined
that the offer is in the best interests of Emergis and its shareholders and
unanimously recommended that the shareholders accept the Offer and tender
their Common Shares.
