Teens Mobilize to End Impaired Driving

TORONTO, Dec. 21 /CNW/ - Every two weeks, one teenager is killed and 20
are injured in drinking and driving related collisions.(*) OSAID is on a mission
to do something about it - and Pilot Insurance is determined to help!
OSAID (Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving) is an association
organized and run by high school students. Since 1987, OSAID has led the way
in increasing awareness about the perils of impaired driving to a hard to
reach audience - their peers. And in this holiday season of parties and
celebration, there is no better time to promote OSAID and reiterate the risk
of excessive drinking to our youngest drivers.
OSAID reaches more than 300,000 students annually through its 400 school
chapters and more than 5000 volunteers. Programming goes beyond the school
environment. It positively impacts over a million families by engaging youth
leaders to launch motivational and educational campaigns that promote a
practical and responsible driver-safety message that resonates with teenagers.
With such a lofty mission, OSAID depends on the financial support of
corporate sponsors. Pilot Insurance Company has signed on to a $120,000
three-year financial commitment to the organization. "We are very excited
about the Pilot Insurance core sponsorship," says Matt Evans, OSAID Provincial
Coordinator. "Support of this kind lends tremendous credibility to the work
done by the many OSAID volunteers across Ontario. Our partnership will help in
the recruitment of new members and improve our ability to produce quality
programming and promotions. In addition to the financial sponsorship, Pilot
Insurance will be an integral part of our organization at the Board level and
will help to develop a network of professional support for OSAID's regional
groups through Pilot's partnership with more than 300 local independent
insurance brokers and 23 claims branches across Ontario. As well, Pilot will
provide a $2000 scholarship for a student who has shown exemplary work within
their community."
Pilot Insurance is proud to support these students for their initiative
in taking the lead to promote safe driving and help save lives. Pilot is a
member of the Aviva Canada group of companies, the country's second largest
provider of home, auto and business insurance.

(*) Collision statistics are based on the 2004 Ontario Accident Database
        System (ADS).
