TORONTO, April 15 /CNW Telbec/ - A tentative agreement was reached Thursday between Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) and Bombardier Canada Inc., who operates and services Go Transit Trains and Equipment.

Division 660 of TCRC represents about 350 shop trade workers, crew dispatchers and onboard operating crews that operate and maintain the Go Transit trains and are employed by Bombardier.

It is the first collective agreement negotiated between both parties since the Teamsters Union was certified two years ago. The bargaining contract, if ratified, would cover a three-year period and end in 2012. It took 18 months to negotiate.

"There were hurdles to overcome and a significant number of issues to address for the membership," said George MacPherson, General Chairman at Division 660 of the Rail Conference. "This is a true multi-craft contract and we appreciate the support of the TCRC's national office over the past two years."

"Particularly important in this set of bargaining was the unwavering support and patience of our membership," said the union leader. "I'm confident that we addressed all of their issues and made the necessary improvements to the wages and working conditions."

The bargaining committee recommends ratification of the tentative agreement.

Ramon Muzones, Vice General Chairman, echoed George MacPherson's comments and stated: "This is the first collective agreement negotiated by the Teamsters since we joined in 2009. We knew it was a good choice to join the Teamsters, and this negotiated settlement is a significant step forward for the membership."

The details of the bargaining contract will be made public after it is approved by the membership.

The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference represents over 10,000 workers in various trades and crafts throughout the Transportation industry, The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada in all trades. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with which Teamsters Canada is affiliated, has 1.4 million members in North America.
