TORONTO, Oct. 21 /CNW/ - Subaru Rally Team Canada driver Pat Richard and
co-driver Alan Ockwell fought their way back from last position in the Pacific
Forest Rally (the result of mechanical problems) to finish third-and claim
first place in the 2008 Canadian Rally Championship.
In an extremely challenging rally that eliminated many experienced
drivers, Richard and Ockwell clearly demonstrated a will to win by
consistently scoring at or near the top times for every stage on the final
day. The result was an impressive third position in the Open class, behind
winners Antoine L'Estage and Nathalie Richard in a Hyundai, and Gord Olsen and
Todd Patola in a 2004 Subaru WRX.
"We knew it could come right down to the final stages, and we decided
that we would just give it everything we had," said Richard. "It was a tough
event - a lot of entries weren't able to finish - so it was as much a victory
over this rugged course as it was over the other cars and drivers. We did what
we needed to get to the podium, and it's great to have the championship. We're
really thrilled, and it's awesome for Subaru."
The next event on the Canadian Rally Championship will also be the last
for 2008. The Rally of the Tall Pines will take place in Bancroft, Ontario, on
