Steelworkers ratify two-year agreement with upholstery-maker Morbern, Inc.

    CORNWALL, ON, March 28 /CNW/ - United Steelworkers' (USW)
Ontario/Atlantic Director Wayne Fraser announced Wednesday that members of USW
Local 9343 have ratified a two-year agreement with Morbern, Inc., providing
increases to wages and benefits and a number of other improvements.
    Wages for the 250 employees will increase by 2.5 per cent in each of the
two years. Defined contribution pensions have been improved with an increase
in company contributions. Dental and other benefits have been improved, with
the company picking up more of the cost. Early retirement provisions have been
added, so that a worker can retire at age 62 and retain benefits through to
age 65.
    The contract also increases vacation time as well as more time (125 days
per year) for leave to perform union business.

    Morbern is a leading manufacturer of decorative vinyl fabrics.

    The USW represents about 280,000 men and women working in every sector of
Canada's economy.
