Steelworkers ratify agreement with Canada Talc Limited

    MADOC, ON, Aug. 19 /CNW/ - Members of the United Steelworkers (USW) Local
15303 have ratified a new three-year contract with Canada Talc Limited, USW
Ontario/Atlantic Director Wayne Fraser said Tuesday.
    The agreement boosts wages by a total of 12.5 per cent, with increases of
$1 an hour in the first year, 65 cents in the second and 60 cents in year
    Increases were also negotiated in the employees' Registered Retirement
Savings Plan, with joint contributions going to four per cent from two per
cent of employees' wages. Insurances have been improved, along with shift
premiums, vision care, payment for safety shoes and employees will be paid
double time for working on a paid holiday.
    The union also won the company's agreement to a workplace observance of
two important days - The April 28 National Day of Mourning for workers killed
or injured on the job, and Dec. 6, the National Day of Remembrance and Action
on Violence against Women.
