OTTAWA, Aug. 21 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable John Baird, Minister of the
Environment, today issued the following statement on the Oil Spill on August
20th, 2007 in Robson Bight, British Columbia.
"I want to express my concern over the diesel fuel spill yesterday in
Robson Bight, British Columbia, especially with respect to the potential
impact of the spill on sensitive wildlife in the area.
"Local authorities are currently on the scene to determine the effects of
the spill, and my department is working closely with the Coast Guard and our
provincial and First Nations counterparts to assess the situation. Our main
priority will be to ensure that human health is not at risk and wildlife in
the area is protected."
"As always, we are working with our partners to limit the damage to the
environment and the ecosystem."
