Statement by Ontario Minister of Aboriginal Affairs Brad Duguid

    TORONTO, June 4 /CNW/ - Ontario Minister of Aboriginal Affairs Brad
Duguid released this statement following the announcement of Phil Fontaine
that he will not be running for the position of National Chief of the Assembly
of First Nations:
    "Throughout his career, National Chief Fontaine has made many incredible
contributions to the prosperity and hope of this country's first people. He is
a tireless advocate for First Nation communities across Canada and indigenous
people worldwide, bringing national and international attention to many
important issues Aboriginal people face."

make Ontario, and Canada, a better place for all Canadians. We wish him peace
in his personal journey towards reconciliation and thank him for leading the
national movement forward toward reconciliation."
