St. John Ambulance ushers in new executive team

    OTTAWA, June 25 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, the Board of Directors of St. John
Ambulance Canada is pleased to announce the appointments of F. Richard Bruce,
as the new Chancellor and Chairman, Mairi Arthur, as Deputy Chancellor, Brock
Cairns, as Vice-Chancellor Finance and Administration, and Geraldine Hinton,
as Vice-Chancellor Community Services, to the Board.
    Richard has been an active member of the St. John Ambulance Manitoba
Council since 1992 and has been Deputy Chancellor for St. John Ambulance
Canada since 2007. His extensive experience in both the charitable and
volunteer services sectors includes the United Way of Canada, Brandon
University, Canadian Cancer Society Manitoba Division, Canadian Institute for
the Blind. His professional background includes an ambitious 36-year career
with the Brandon Police Service, the last five years serving as its Chief of
Police. A recent graduate of Cambridge University (UK) he brings considerable
knowledge and perspective in the fields of leadership and training (MA, Royal
Roads) and political science and economics (BA, Brandon University).
    Mairi has been actively involved with St. John Ambulance Nova Scotia/PEI
Council since 1979, including her role as Chair of the Council. A human
resources professional, she brings extensive experience in planning and
policy; change management; labour relations; employee relations; training;
disability management; and occupational health and safety. She has worked in
health care and community services in both Scotland and Canada (Regional
Health Boards, District Health Authorities, Victorian Order of Nurses,
Rehabilitation Centre, Provincial Housing Authorities and Community
Industries). She is currently employed by the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation.
    Under the leadership of this new team, St. John Ambulance will reaffirm
its role as Canada's leader in first aid training and standards. Each year,
more than 600,000 Canadians complete their St. John Ambulance first aid
certificates, making Canadian communities healthier and safer - at work, home
and play.
