VANCOUVER, Sept. 2, 2011 /CNW/ - Marlene Everett is doing the 'happy
dance' after collecting her jackpot winnings at the BCLC office.
The Squamish resident matched all six of her numbers on the August 31
Lotto 6/49 draw to win $3.4 million.
"I normally only buy lottery tickets when the jackpots are large. I
bought the ticket just in time for the draw and the next day I heard
someone in Squamish had won the jackpot," said Everett, 65. "I went to
the store where I bought my ticket to check our numbers. I couldn't
believe my eyes."
The winning Lotto 6/49 quick-pick ticket was purchased at the Walmart
lottery ticket centre in Squamish.
"My husband and I need to let it sink in," said Everett. "But one
thing's for sure - retirement just got a whole lot better!"
The family plans on taking a vacation and buying a new house with the
This win is the fourth major Lotto 6/49 jackpot to be won in B.C. during
the month of August. On August 3, a winner in Richmond won a $7 million
jackpot. On the August 17 draw, a second Richmond winner claimed $7.2
million, and a group of 22 Langley workers claimed $3.3 million on the
August 24 draw.
Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and
Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PST). Players can purchase tickets at any
lottery retailer or at PlayNow.com.
