QUEBEC CITY, Dec. 3 /CNW Telbec/ - Accompanied by its key players, today
the Société du 400e anniversaire de Québec revealed with immense pride the
major elements of New Year's Eve celebrations Kick-off show at Place
'The moment for which we've been working relentlessly for months is at
our doorstep. With only 29 days left before Kick-off, we wanted to share our
excitement with you,' declared Mr. Pierre Boulanger, President and CEO of the
Société. 'For this first pivotal event of our calendar, we called upon very
talented people who will show you Québec City in a new way, make you love it
more than ever... and feel like celebrating it!'
Starting at 9 pm, Place D'Youville will resound with animated party
rythms. Then at 11 pm the Kick-off show will begin. Artistic director
Denis Bouchard orchestrates this festive event and describes it as a series of
heartfelt scenes in which Québec City becomes the central character. Slices of
history, comedy, dance and passion will meet on stage enthused by the music of
composer Jean-Fernand Girard.
Bruno Pelletier, Stéphane Rousseau, la Bottine Souriante, Florence K,
Claire Pelletier, Les Batinses, Les Violons du Roy and the fast-rising
Pascale Picard Band are among the stars who will fire-up Place D'Youville. One
also notes the contribution of the First Nations to the happening which will
unfold as much in front of Palais Montcalm as on the fortified walls and the
Some 400 artists among which 200 tapdancers, 100 singers and 50 dancers
will take part in this free performance. Production requires 100 technicians
and 520 hours to set-up. The show will conclude at midnight with flamboyant
fireworks that will mark the passage into 2008. Festivities will go on in
music with the post-Kick-off show.
In addition to being a major partner and the official provider of
information and telecommunications technologies, Bell is involved in the
presentation of this opening event. 'We are very happy to provide the
high-tech platform that will enable the public to take part in the
celebrations... even from a distance, since we will present it live on
MonQuebec2008.com' explained Mr. Christian Goulet, Assistant Vice-President -
Public sector and Québec Area.
Take note that this performance will be broadcast live on ARTV and
televised at 0:20 on Radio-Canada with a repeat at 7 pm on January 1st.
'SAQ and Vins de France unite in the spirit of celebrations to contibute
to Québec City's 400th anniversary. Since the days of Nouvelle-France until
now, sparkling potions have been and remain associated with the great moments
of our history! Consequently we are most pleased to be a part of this
memorable anniversary's Kick-off,' affirmed Mrs. Christine Babkine, Director -

The Society's team also unveiled the television commercial and the poster
that will promote the Kick-off. Using the cannon commonly recognized as a
symbol of Québec City, it strongly signals the beginning of the celebrations.
