Spotlight to Shine for One Night on the inVISIBLE Minority: Captivating soprano sings for awareness

    MONTREAL, March 28 /CNW Telbec/ - Internationally-renowned Italian-born
singer, Giorgia Fumanti, performs this Saturday, March 29, at 8 pm at Théâtre
Maisonneuve (Place des Arts) in Montréal, to benefit the Multi-Ethnic
Association for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities (AMEIPH).
It has often been said that 'A society's greatness is measured by how it
treats its weakest members.'. This Association provides assistance to perhaps
THE most vulnerable segment of our society.
The AMEIPH is the first organization in Canada and the only one in Québec
dedicated exclusively to the problems of persons with disabilities from
immigrant and ethnocultural backgrounds - often referred to as "the inVISIBLE
While services exist for immigrants, and services exist for people with
disabilities, immigrants with a disability essentially "fall through the
cracks". They are ignored in legislation, statistical studies and programs and
services offered. The AMEIPH fills this gap by supporting their steps toward
integration, and directing them toward resources that meet their needs.
"It is hard enough to start a new life in a new country. There are
language barriers, cultural differences, new social structures, and sometimes
discrimination... But imagine if you also were blind, in a wheelchair, or had
an intellectual disability?", says Luciana Soave, Director General and Founder
of the Association.
Giorgia Fumanti hopes that this concert will focus attention on this
cause that is close to her heart, having experienced coming to a new country
and having worked with children with disabilities in Italy prior to her
singing career.

The program will include songs from Ennio Morricone, Lucio Dalla, Sting,
West Side Story, Romeo and Juliet, Jean-Pierre Ferland, Gilbert Bécaud and
original material.
