Softchoice Makes Globe and Mail's "Best Workplaces" List For Fourth Consecutive Year

TORONTO, April 6 /CNW/ - Softchoice Corporation (TSX: SO), a leading
North American provider of technology solutions and services, is delighted to
announce it has been named to the Globe and Mail's 2009 list of the "Best
Workplaces in Canada" for the fourth year in a row. The annual award, which is
administered by the Great Place to Work Institute of Canada, recognizes
employers across the country for creating and fostering exemplary workplace
environments. The institute employs the same methodology used by Fortune
magazine to assemble their list of the "100 Best Places to Work For in
America," and is primarily based on employee survey responses and feedback.
"We are proud to be named a Best Workplace for the fourth year in a row,"
said David MacDonald, President and CEO of Softchoice. "While this award
certainly says a lot about the work we've done to make Softchoice an employer
of choice, I feel that the credit ultimately belongs to our people. Despite
the challenging economic climate, our employees continue to inspire with their
dedication to customers, each other, the community, and Softchoice as a
Employee dedication is inextricably linked to the holistic work
environment Softchoice has strived to create since its inception. "People
spend almost as much time at work as they do anywhere else," Mr. MacDonald
added. "We want to create an environment where people feel comfortable, where
they can interact with their managers and colleagues, socialize with each
other, and generally feel inspired."
Softchoice has gone to lengths to create a comfortable, engaging work
environment. The company's Toronto headquarters is based in a converted
Victorian-era factory with exposed brick and wooden beams, and abundant
natural light. As part of a major expansion, in 2008 the company added a
restaurant-styled staff lunch commissary, quiet room with a tropical fish
aquarium, and fitness center, providing employees with spaces to unwind,
socialize, relax and stay healthy.
Softchoice employees are also given opportunities to dedicate their time
at work to community service. The company's philanthropic outreach program,
called Softchoice Cares, helps foster a sense of camaraderie and communal
responsibility. By providing two volunteer days per person each year, the
company makes it easy for employees to give back to the community and raise
money for various charities. This unique approach to corporate philanthropy
has been highly effective in encouraging employees from across the company to
get involved in fundraising efforts. Employees have responded
enthusiastically, volunteering over 3,500 hours to a range of charities.
