More of Sofame's technologies available to companies who will save
energy while reducing greenhouse gas emission
MONTREAL, Aug. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - Sofame Technologies Inc. (SDW: TSX-V) is
pleased to announce that it now holds a total of eleven patents including the
following two new Canadian patents:
- the Direct Contact Water Heater with Indirect Contact Section can be
used with most types of fuel while assuring a complete combustion.
- the Air Heater and Humidifier Using Direct Contact Heating Principles
and Method of Operation is a unit that combines both functions thereby
simplifying installation, decreasing costs and increasing efficiency.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has already granted a
patent for this unit.
Sofame also holds patents for the following applications:
- Direct Contact Water Heater with Hybrid Heat Source (US and Canada)
- High Efficiency Direct-Contact High Temperature Water Heater (US and
- Low Nox and Co Emissions Direct Contact High Temperature Water Heater
(US and Canada)
- Direct Contact Water Heater with Dual Water Heating Chambers (US and
About the "Direct Contact Water Heater with Indirect Contact Section"
The Canadian Intellectual Property Office has granted Sofame patent
No. 2,136,781 entitled, "Direct Contact Water Heater with Indirect Contact
Section". This technology is the result of three years of extensive research
and development, and is meant to respond to a growing need of the heating
industry. Most direct contact units currently available on the market use
either natural gas or propane. This unit targets two specific markets:
- Most large users of natural gas have a contract basis known as
"interruptible" requiring the use of two types of fuel: natural gas as
the main fuel with the additional capability of burning
#2 oil on very cold days.
- "One of the solutions the heating industry has developed in the face of
increased energy cost and new regulations regarding the reduction of
greenhouse gas emissions is the use of biomass fuels like coal and
wood. However, a complete combustion does not occur with these types of
fuels. The new patented unit which Sofame is offering to its clients
includes a dry combustion chamber and a direct contact section. This
combined technology allows the use of most types of fuels while
assuring a complete combustion and efficiency close to 100%.
About the "Air Heater and Humidifier Using Direct Contact Heating
Principles and Method of Operation" patent
The Canadian Intellectual Property Office has also granted Sofame patent
No. 2,185,857 entitled, "Air Heater and Humidifier Using Direct Contact
Heating Principles and Method of Operation". This technology is the result of
two years of extensive research and development and will offer an efficient
alternative to heating and humidifying air in large buildings typical of the
northern hemisphere countries. Because the air outside is cold and dry in the
winter months, it is necessary to humidify the air as it is heated.
Traditional units addressing this issue are an amalgam of up to six
components, making them costly to install and less efficient. Sofame's
solution to this problem is to provide its clients with an "all-in-one" unit.
As a result, installation costs will be lower and its efficiency rate will be
99% to 100%.
Sofame Technologies Inc. is a Montreal-based company that retains
exclusive production and distribution rights on patented direct contact heat
