    MONTREAL, Jan. 17 /CNW Telbec/ - Société du parc Jean-Drapeau (SPJD)
deplores the decision by the Syndicat des cols bleus regroupés de Montréal
(SCFP, section local 301) to reject the offer of a truce by Montreal mayor
Gérald Tremblay. As a result, SPJD has no choice but to confirm cancellation
of the 26th Fête des Neiges. Despite this negative outcome, the SPJD would
like to thank Mayor Tremblay for his last-ditch efforts to try and save the
"Once again, Montreal families are being penalized by the union's
inflexibility and insensitivity. We're not fooled by the union's strategy:
they hid their refusal behind their supposed openness. The union knew full
well that the condition it was demanding was unacceptable because it involved
key elements in the negotiation. A truce meant working to save the Fête des
Neiges to offer Montreal families a festive event in a safe environment. The
union preferred to take advantage of the situation to negotiate in public,
which is unacceptable," said Kevin Donnelly, SPJD spokesperson.

Société du parc Jean-Drapeau has a mandate to manage and develop Parc
Jean-Drapeau, maintain relations with partners, conserve, protect and develop
green and blue spaces, and maintain and preserve buildings, equipment and
public works of art. SPJD is managed by a seven-member board of directors
representing primarily the business community.
