Small Businesses Offered Chance to Win $10,000 Technology Makeover in HP Canada and CFIB Contest

    Second annual contest aimed at innovative Canadian SMBs that have used
    technology to change the way they do business

    MISSISSAUGA, ON, Oct. 15 /CNW/ - HP Canada and the Canadian Federation of
Independent Businesses (CFIB) are asking small and mid-sized businesses to
share their success stories in a contest for a chance to win a grand prize of
$10,000 worth of HP products and custom design consulting services from an HP
    The second annual Technology Makeover Contest is launching today in
celebration of National Small Business Week. HP Canada and the CFIB invite
Canadian CFIB-member companies to answer the question, "How is technology
changing the way you do business?" and explain how they have embraced
technology to benefit their businesses.
    "CFIB has been a big voice for small business for 35 years and as such we
are excited to partner with HP Canada again this year to offer our members the
opportunity to win technologies that can help them run their businesses
better," said Catherine Swift, president, chief executive officer and
chairperson, CFIB.
    The contest, open to CFIB members exclusively, will run until Friday,
Feb. 29. To enter, CFIB members are asked to submit their technology stories
via an online form that can include information on why they decided to
implement mobile technologies, update their servers to help protect their data
or bring the creation of their marketing materials in-house. The online form
is available on both CFIB's website ( and HP's website
    Winners will be selected by a panel of judges from HP Canada and CFIB
based on the following criteria:
    Participants must submit their maximum 300 word technology stories
explaining how the use of technology has benefited their businesses and/or why
they would benefit from a technology makeover.
    "Canadian small and mid-sized businesses require technologies that fit
the individual demands of their growing companies," said Michael McAvoy,
director, SMB and PSG Commercial Marketing, HP Canada. "With the launch of the
second annual Technology Makeover Contest, we look forward to hearing from
Canadian business owners about how they are using technology and how it has
made them more competitive and productive."
    The grand prize winner will receive a $10,000 technology makeover package
from HP Canada, which includes: an HP Compaq Business Desktop PC; HP monitor;
HP Compaq Business Notebook PC; HP Notebook Expansion Base; HP iPAQ handheld
device; HP Photosmart Digital Camera; HP printer; and, $5,000 in custom design
agency services.
    The second place winner will receive a prize package consisting of $3,200
worth of HP products. Five honourable mentions will also be chosen and each
will receive an HP printer valued at $400.
    To be considered for the second annual HP Canada and CFIB Technology
Makeover Contest, entrants must be registered CFIB members.
