TORONTO, March 29 /CNW/ - Investigators from the Special Investigations
Unit (SIU) are continuing their probe into a fatal shooting at an apartment
building at 3460 Keele St. involving officers from the Toronto Police Service
(TPS) on March 28, 2007.
TPS officers were called to the building in response to a domestic
disturbance involving two people who were visiting tenants of the building.
Officers became involved in a confrontation with a man, resulting in one shot
being fired by one officer. The man was hit and was pronounced dead at
hospital. He is identified at 37-year-old Cristian Iordache, a resident of
A post mortem examination was conducted today on the body of Mr. Iordache
in Toronto. The results are not being released at this point in the
Mr. Iordache's spouse, who was injured during the course of a struggle
with her husband during this incident, was treated for those injuries at
hospital and has subsequently been released.
SIU investigators are continuing to hold the scene in order to conduct
forensic examinations. Investigators will continue to interview witnesses and
have now designated one subject officer and nine witness officers from the

released on this investigation today.
The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates circumstances involving
police and civilians which have resulted in serious injury, sexual assault or
death. Under Part VII, Section 113, of the Police Services Act, the Director
of the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether or not charges are
warranted based on the findings of a complete investigation. The Director's
decision is reported to the Attorney General.
