SIU Probing Injuries to Ottawa Woman

TORONTO, Aug. 12 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing
the circumstances surrounding the injuries suffered by an Ottawa woman late
last night. The SIU has assigned three investigators and two forensic
investigators to the case.
At 7:30 p.m. Ottawa Police Service (OPS) officers went to an address on
Sunset Blvd. in response to a call for service. The officers dealt with the
call and left. At 10:24 p.m. the OPS was called back to the home. While the
officers were on the scene the garage exploded. A 43-year-old Ottawa woman
suffered serious burns. She was transported to hospital for treatment.
The SIU is appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident to contact the
Lead Investigator at 416-622-2038 or 1-800-787-8529 extension #2038.

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
