TORONTO, Nov. 19 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has
assigned seven Investigators and three Forensic Identification Technicians to
investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Toronto on
Sunday November 18, 2007.
The SIU was notified that at approximately 7:38 a.m. there was a single
vehicle rollover on the southbound Don Valley Parkway north of Don Mills Rd.
The driver of the rolled vehicle fled the area on foot and ran northeast
across the Parkway and into a ravine.
Toronto Police Service (TPS) officers located the driver and during the
arrest an altercation occurred. The man was eventually taken into custody. A
short time later the man went into medical distress. He was taken to
Sunnybrook Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A post mortem will be conducted on Monday November 19, 2007.

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates circumstances involving
police and civilians, which have resulted in serious injury, sexual assault or
death. Under Part VII, Section 113, of the Police Services Act, the Director
of the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether or not charges are
warranted based on the findings of a complete investigation. The Director's
decision is reported to the Attorney General.
