SIU Investigates Death in Tillsonburg

    TORONTO, April 3 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 27-year-old woman
in Tillsonburg.
    The SIU was notified that on April 3, 2007 at approximately 1600 hrs
Oxford County OPP officers attended the residence of the woman in Tillsonburg
to execute an arrest warrant. While an officer was speaking to an occupant of
the residence at the door, the officer became aware that a woman had fallen
from an apartment balcony. The woman was transported to Tillsonburg District
Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
    Five SIU investigators, including two Forensic Identification Technicians
have been dispatched to Tillsonburg to conduct an investigation.
    The SIU is appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact
the Unit at 1-800-787-8529 Extension 1965 or 416-622-1965.

    The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates circumstances involving
police and civilians which have resulted in serious injury, sexual assault or
death. Under Part VII, Section 113, of the Police Services Act, the Director
of the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether or not charges are
warranted based on the findings of a complete investigation. The Director's
decision is reported to the Attorney General.
