SIU Investigates (Custody Injury, Toronto)

    TORONTO, Aug. 4 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has sent
three investigators and two forensic investigators to probe the circumstances
surrounding the arrest of a 21 year old man in Toronto.
    On Monday, August 04, 2008 at approximately 3:34 am., a parking
enforcement officer was investigating a vehicle on Sackville Street. He became
involved in a physical altercation with a male occupant of the vehicle. Police
responded and arrested the man who went into medical distress. He was
transported to St. Michaels Hospital with what are believed to be non life
threatening injuries.
    The SIU is appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact
the Unit at 416-622-1957 or 1-800-787-8529 ext. 1957.

    The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates circumstances involving
police and civilians, which have resulted in serious injury, sexual assault or
death. Under Part VII, Section 113, of the Police Services Act, the Director
of the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether or not charges are
warranted based on the findings of a complete investigation. The Director's
decision is reported to the Attorney General.
