SIU Investigates Collision in Mississauga

    TORONTO, Aug. 28 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
investigating the circumstances surrounding a two car crash in Mississauga
this morning that involved a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
    The OPP advised the SIU that at 10:00 a.m. this morning an OPP officer
driving an unmarked police vehicle collided with another vehicle on Wolfedale
Rd. in Mississauga. The male officer who was alone and male driver of the
other car were not injured. However, a 27-year-old male passenger in the
civilian car was taken to hospital. He is being treated for a broken bone in
his arm.
    The SIU has assigned five investigators, two forensic technicians and a
collision reconstructionist to investigate this incident.
    The SIU is appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact
the Lead Investigator at 416-622-1957 or 1-800-787-8529 extension 1957.

    The SIU is a civilian government agency that investigates circumstances
involving police and civilians, which have resulted in serious injury or
death. Under Section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU
has the authority to decide whether or not charges are warranted based on the
findings of an investigation. The Director's decision is reported to the
Attorney General.
