SIU Investigates Collision in Burlington

    MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 22 /CNW/ - Four investigators and three forensic
identification investigators from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) are
probing the circumstances surrounding a collision in Burlington last evening.
    The SIU was notified that at 7:54 p.m. May 21, 2009 an Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) officer from the Burlington Detachment was involved in a pursuit
of an alleged stolen Cadillac SUV westbound on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW).
The vehicle exited the QEW at Guelph Line in Burlington. The vehicle went
northbound and collided with a Honda automobile in the intersection at
Davidson Court.
    Two people from the Cadillac and one person from the Honda were taken to
the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital for treatment.
    The SIU is appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact

    The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
