TORONTO, Nov. 21 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting
of a man by a Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) officer on Ottawa St in
Kitchener during the evening of Tuesday, November 20, 2007.
The WRPS advised the SIU that at 9:38 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2007,
two uniformed officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress at the
Shopper's Drug Mart on Ottawa St. South. When the officers arrived they
confronted a male leaving the store. One of the officers discharged their
service pistol once and the male received a gunshot wound.
EMS responded to the scene and the male was taken to Grand River Hospital
by ambulance where he later succumbed to his injuries. The man has been
identified as Trevor Colin Graham, 26-years-old, of Kitchener.
The SIU has assigned five field investigators and three forensic
identification technicians to investigate the circumstances of this incident.
One officer has been designated as a subject officer and four officers
have been designated as witness officers.
The Shoppers Drug Mart was open at the time of this occurrence and the
SIU is appealing for anyone who was in the store or anyone who was outside in
the plaza parking lot at 9:30 p.m. onwards to contact the Lead Investigator at

The SIU is a civilian government agency that investigates circumstances
involving police and civilians, which have resulted in serious injury or
death. Under Section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU
has the authority to decide whether or not charges are warranted based on the
