TORONTO, Aug. 8 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
continuing its investigation into the injuries sustained when a 47-year-old
Toronto man was arrested in Toronto's east end in July 2008.
Around 7:30 p.m. on July 7, 2008, officers of the Toronto Police Service
arrested a man in front of the Super 8 Motel on Kingston Rd. near Bellamy Rd.
for an alleged criminal offence. The man later complained of injuries and was
taken to hospital by ambulance. He was treated and released.
Four investigators are probing the circumstance of this occurrence.

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
