TORONTO, June 30 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
investigating an incident that occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday,
June 29, 2008, near the Mink nightclub on Pearl St. in Toronto.
The SIU was notified that Toronto Police Service (TPS) officers arrested
a 21-year-old man outside the nightclub and took him into custody. The man
suffered a facial injury.
Three SIU investigators have been assigned to investigate the
circumstances surrounding the man's injury. SIU investigators are interested
in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has
information about it. Witnesses are asked to call the SIU lead investigator at

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
