Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between PTAC Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada and National Optics Institute (INO)

QUEBEC CITY, Aug. 17 /CNW Telbec/ - Research and development in the
growing area of optics/photonics for the Canadian hydrocarbon energy industry
has been strengthened recently with the signing of a Memorandum of
Understanding between PTAC Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada and National
Optics Institute (INO), the largest R&D center in optics/photonics in Canada.
The purpose of the MOU is to establish a cooperative and strategic working
relationship between INO and PTAC to further the application of optics and
photonics technologies. "We are just beginning to scratch the surface in terms
of what we can do with photonics technology for the Canadian hydrocarbon
industry" said Dr. Asgarpour, president of PTAC.
These two organizations share a proven commitment to solving complex
problems through creative collaboration among diverse stakeholders. INO has
historically taken this approach with Small and Medium Enterprise (SME)
clients seeking to resolve business issues through the application of
optics/photonics solutions, while PTAC has leveraged the knowledge and
financial resources of stakeholders from across the oil and gas industry to
tackle large-scale research and development initiatives. By working together
more closely, PTAC and INO hope to foster the application of new and
innovative optics/photonics solutions that will benefit the Canadian
hydrocarbon energy industry by assisting in the recovery of hydrocarbons,
reducing costs, improving safety, and minimizing the environmental footprint.
According to Simon Labbé, VP Business development at INO, "Optics based
solution are intrinsically safe, non-intrusive, accurate and have the
potential to provide real time data, all of which are expected criteria by the
O&G industry".

INO is a technological design and development firm in optics and
photonics solutions for SMEs and large corporations. It is home to the largest
concentration of skills in the field and serves clients of all sizes from all
parts of Canada and the world. INO offers a complete range of integrated
services in the fields of optics and photonics to clients in every field of
industry activity. INO also possesses a variety of technologies and innovative
processes based on a strong Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio.

PTAC is a not-for-profit association that facilitates innovation,
collaborative research, and technology development, demonstration, and
deployment for the Canadian hydrocarbon energy industry. PTAC's objective is
to improve the industry's financial, environmental, and safety performance
through the application of new technology and research. A membership comprised
of approximately 280 expert volunteers from large and small producers, service
companies, research providers, individuals, and government organizations work
with PTAC to facilitate innovation, technology development, demonstration, and
deployment for the sustainable development of Canada's world-class hydrocarbon
resources. PTAC members produce approximately 77% of Canada's crude oil and
natural gas.
