Shortlist announced for Galaxie Rising Stars Award of the CBC

ROGERS MUSICSTORE CMW: The 'Rebirth' of Music (*) March 5-8, 2008

TORONTO, Feb. 11 /CNW/ - Rogers MusicStore CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK is excited
to announce the shortlist for the 2008 Galaxie Rising Stars Award of the CBC.
As opposed to the fan-voted Indie Awards, the Galaxie Rising Stars Award of
the CBC is the choice of the nation's music critics. Sales and airplay are
irrelevant for this award as artistic merit (creativity, originality, etc.)
takes centre stage and acts as the sole judging criteria. All submissions have
been boiled down to a shortlist from which these same critics will choose the
most deserving recording and select the recipient of this year's Galaxie
Rising Stars Award of the CBC.
The Award - a $3,000 cash prize - is part of the Galaxie Rising Stars
Program of the CBC, an original program that sets out to discover, encourage
and promote new artists.
"We share a deep sense of passion for music with our partners and embrace
the bright talent of Canadian artists on the rise," said Jean-Richard
Lefebvre, Director, Development, Partnerships and French Programming. "For the
recipients, a Rising Stars Award is a mark of respect and recognition. For
Galaxie, it is our way of showing how proud we are of our new artists!"
The winner of the Galaxie Rising Stars Award of the CBC will be announced
at The 2008 Indie Awards, March 8th at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel's
Canadian Room in Toronto. Tickets for The Indies are $25 in advance and $30 at
the door. Advance tickets are available through Ticketmaster - Ticketbreak and
the Rogers MusicStore CMW website,
