MONTREAL, March 10 /CNW Telbec/ - McGill, Concordia, UdeM, UQAM, Dawson,
John Abbott - Hillel Montréal and Centre Hillel are proud to announce the
launch of a week-long awareness campaign called "My heart is with Sderot /
Sderot est dans mon coeur" from March 10th to 13th, 2008. This campaign will
be held on all universities in Montréal as well as on certain Cegep campuses.
This informational campaign, initiated and created by Jonathan Assouline
and Dvora Charness, will shed some light on the human suffering endured by the
residents of the Israeli city of Sderot, in the south of the country. "While
the Middle East makes headlines left and right, all too often the plight of
the citizens of Sderot is ignored, all the while they are bombarded daily by
rockets coming out of the Gaza Strip," says Assouline, Centre Hillel
Vice-President in charge of external affairs. "We hope to bring attention to
the suffering of the people of Sderot, and the constant fear they live under."
This campaign, which runs in both French and English on 6 post-secondary
campuses in Montréal, will be highlighted by the keynote speaker, Noam Bedein
of Israel, who runs the Sderot Media Center (www.sderotmedia.co.il). Bedein
will be addressing a mostly student crowd on Monday night, March 10th, at 7pm,
on McGill Campus, Leacock Building room 219 (885 Sherbrooke St. West),
exploring the pain and suffering of the residents of Sderot, through real-time
footage of rocket attacks and documenting every day life in Sderot.
This campaign is being sponsored by Hillel Montréal and Centre Hillel, in
collaboration with Hasbara Fellowships.
