TORONTO, Sept. 5 /CNW/ - The builder, EllisDon, will finish the
construction for the re-opening of Sassafraz this week, but with city
approvals still pending the Yorkville landmark won't be back in business in
time for opening day of the Toronto International Film Festival, its owners
"Sassafraz will be welcoming guests back very soon," said Sassafraz
owners Zoran and Vasko Kocovski. "While we had hoped that might happen in time
for the opening of this year's film festival, the goal has always been to make
sure that we open correctly."
The restaurant was gutted by fire last December. Since then, an extensive
redesign and reconstruction effort has taken place.
"We've been deeply touched by the good wishes and the interest people
have shown in seeing Sassafraz restored and re-opened," said the brothers.
"People have told us that they view the restaurant as an important part of
Yorkville and of Toronto, and we're truly grateful for that."
Sassafraz wishes the Toronto International Film Festival and all the
sponsors and participants a great TIFF event for 2007.
Precise re-opening details will be announced soon and updates will be
placed on www.sassafraz.ca
