Saskatchewan's energy story has ear of Americans

    REGINA, June 19 /CNW/ - Today, Saskatchewan Industry and Resources
Minister Maynard Sonntag is on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. promoting the
province's energy opportunities to approximately 75 senior U.S. politicians
and energy officials, as well as energy and investment company executives.
    Saskatchewan's presentation is being sponsored by U.S. Senator Orrin
Hatch (R - Utah) and includes other American speakers who will also address
opportunities in Saskatchewan. The event is part of a four-day mission to
promote Saskatchewan's leadership in oil and gas, uranium, and energy research
to political and business leaders in Washington, D.C., and New York City.
    "As Canada's second largest producer of oil and the world's largest
producer of uranium, we have tremendous energy reserves to market to a country
seeking to establish a long-term, stable and secure energy supply," Sonntag
    "The U.S. is also interested in our world-leading energy research, from
carbon dioxide capture and storage to hybrid hydrogen-gasoline vehicles," he
    Sonntag will be speaking at several events in Washington and New York. On
Wednesday, June 20, he will deliver a presentation to approximately 50 senior
policy advisors and energy analysts at the Washington-based Center for
Strategic and International Studies.
    During his two days in Washington, Sonntag will be accompanied by
executives from Cameco Corp. and the Canadian Light Source synchrotron.
    In New York, on June 21, he will promote investment in Saskatchewan
energy at a seminar attended by about 40 banking and investment firm
    During his trip, the minister has interviews booked with energy reporters
from the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes Magazine, Business Week
and Bloomberg News. In addition, on June 22, he will address a group of
foreign business journalists primarily from Europe and Asia. He will also meet
with Canadian embassy officials and American business organizations during the

presentation on Capitol Hill.
