BURNABY, BC, Nov. 22 /CNW/ - Canadians are writing their lists and
checking websites twice for deals; and Future Shop, Canada's largest retailer
and e-tailer, has dropped prices on over a thousand items in the last 45 days
for customers as they prepare for the approaching holiday season.
"We understand that customers are looking for lower prices when they come
into our store or shop online," said Sean Wilson, Director of Merchandising,
Future Shop. "We are working with our vendors to make this happen."
Although price parity has received substantial attention over the last
6-weeks as the Canadian dollar surpassed the American dollar, Future Shop has
always been committed to offering the best possible price in Canada.
"We want our customers to know that lowering prices isn't something that
we recently focused our attention," said Wilson. "Since last year the prices
of some of the top categories including laptops, digital cameras and
flatscreen televisions have been consistently dropping and we've passed those
savings onto our customers."
Here are some examples of prices that have dropped to match or are now
lower than in the United States(*):
- Sony Bravia 1080p 52" LCD HDTV now $2999.99 (same as in the US)
- Canon TX-1 Digital Camera now $599.99 (same as in the US)
- Pentax M40 Digital Camera now $199.99 (same as in the US)
- Sirius Starmate4 now $89.99 ($10 less than in the US)
- Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo Wii) now $49.99 (same as in the US)
- Garmin Nuvi 260 GPS now $499 (same as in the US)
Future Shop will highlight price drops in-store and online for customers
as they look for the coolest gifts of the season. Future Shop also reminds
customers about the Lowest Price Guarantee - if Future Shop's prices drop or
another retailer offers an item for a lower price than Future Shop will match
it and give the difference of 10%.
