Sandra Jakab becomes new BCSC director of capital markets regulation

    VANCOUVER, Aug. 2 /CNW/ - The British Columbia Securities Commission is
pleased to announce the appointment of Sandra Jakab as the director of capital
markets regulation.
    "I am pleased to announce today that Sandy Jakab has accepted the
position as our new director of capital markets regulation," said
Brenda Leong, BCSC executive director. "Sandy has an excellent understanding
of the issues facing the capital markets and the commission, and I look
forward to working with her as part of the executive management team."
    Jakab qualified as a lawyer in Alberta in 1986 and British Columbia in
1989. She has more than 20 years experience, with a general background in
civil litigation, regulatory matters, and policy development. She has degrees
in arts and in law from the University of Calgary.
    Jakab joined the commission as senior legal counsel in 2001 and became
the manager of policy and exemptions in capital markets regulation in 2005.
Jakab has been actively involved in some significant securities reform
projects, including the passport for registration and registrant regulation.

    The B.C. Securities Commission is the independent provincial government
agency responsible for regulating trading in securities within the province.
