CALGARY, April 6 /CNW/ - Safeway today announced that it has been
recognized as one of this year's Best Workplaces in Canada. A list of 75
Canadian businesses were featured in this morning's national edition of The
Globe and Mail highlighting progressive workplace environments.
The "Great Place to Work" Institute of Canada compiled the list and
recognized Safeway for its team environment, commitment to ensuring diversity
is embedded in their culture and leadership in the area of mentoring as
contributing factors for this honour.
"We take great pleasure in this recognition and are proud of being
recognized for these important aspects of our organization," said Chuck
Mulvenna, President and Chief Operating Officer, Canada Safeway Limited. "This
honour comes by doing what has been part of our culture for over 80 years,
which includes creating a dynamic workplace focused on teamwork and
inclusiveness in an environment where everyone is treated like an individual
and their contribution matters," said Mulvenna.
Safeway has an ongoing commitment to its hiring, training and mentoring
practices, which promote a diverse workforce. The company has a proven track
record of supporting diversity and currently employs nearly 10,000 people with

About Best Workplaces in Canada:
This list of "Best Workplaces in Canada" is compiled by Great Place to
Work(R) Institute Canada. The competition process is based on two criteria:
two-thirds of the total score comes from a 57-statement survey completed by a
random selection of employees, along with their open-ended comments about
their organization; the remaining one-third of the score comes from an
in-depth review of the organization's culture, including an evaluation of HR
policies and procedures. This offers a rigorous representation of the
organization from an employee perspective, and an overall portrait of the
workplace culture. Together, they provide crucial data relative to the five
trust-building dimensions of a great place to work(R): credibility, respect,
fairness, pride, and camaraderie.
